Unsightly scars such as stretch marks are a problem for many women and a lot would try just about anything to get rid of them. But how do they form in the first place? These are formed due to the excessive stretching of the skin during times of rapid growth. This can either occur during puberty or pregnancy when the body undergoes rapid and extreme changes.
Collagen and elastin in the skin is responsible for giving the skin its elasticity. The body can produce collagen and elastin at a specific rate. If the body grows too fast without producing enough of these, the skin will not be elastic enough to accommodate the increase in mass. Because of this, the dermal layer will tear and result in stretch marks.
One way of removing these stretch marks is by using creams that can lighten the scars left by the tearing of the skin. The creams work by stimulating the production of collagen to increase the skin’s elasticity. It also stimulates the regeneration of new cells so that the old cells may be replaced. Lastly, creams also moisturize the skin making it supple and younger looking as well.
If you want a more effective technique, dermabrasion might be the choice for you. It is more expensive but you are sure to find some results as soon as the procedure is over. This works by removing the outermost layer of your skin by mechanically scraping it off. Because of this, scars that are on this layer will definitely be removed. Only the scars that run deep will be left behind. The only drawback to this is that your skin will be left sensitive for quite some time due to the decreased thickness.
A third method of removing scars is by laser surgery. This costs the most amount of money but it is also the most effective procedure as well. It burns away the scars left by old wounds and the disintegrated tissue is replaced by newer cells.
Remember that prevention is always better than a cure. In this case, prevention can be done by applying creams and eating the right kinds of food when expecting a baby. But there is only so much that you can do. If stretch marks still form, then you will have a variety of choices to help eliminate those pesky scars.
