Anyone who is involved in Uk tourism in recent times will have unquestionably seen the most challenging period since the early seventies and three day woring week. Most business has ups and downs but the current recession has seen many unwelcome issues that are all repressing travelling abroad. Rising unemployment and the fear of job losses, cut backs on overtime and shorter working week have typically made people very think twice before booking that expensive holiday. This is topped off by the pounds decline compared to the Euro and the USA dollar has made venturing outside the UK ever more expensive.
The fall in the pound has the benefit of aiding British exporters, the UK domestic tourist industry and which means more people holiday at home. Furthermore, the Bank of England has adopted a very even stance over this demise and has more or less admitted this is no bad thing for the country.
The countries which are expected to be the worst hit are Greece and Spain who both have a high dependency on UK travellers staying in their countries. Spain is currently struggling from an over order in housing and the fall in the pound has only served to make these properties even more pricey and massive price cuts are expected to encourage investors.
The fall of the pound adding to the recent recession has already damaged income for companies providing travel services for the UK. Airport firms, travel agents and airport hotels are all announcing low figures for 2009 and the recent significant fall in the pound can only make 2010 even worse. All these companies must have to take account of these factors and you will be right in expecting to see cheaper Heathrow airport parking and Heathrow hotel parking prices.
Altering currencies definantly makes it hard for all overseas providers to set prices so far in advance. They all will be aware that they are in competition not only with local establishments but hotels in other countries who are less affected, such as Turkey who have seen a 30% increase in their business at the expense of other European countries.
