How I lost $42,000 of revenue and sales commissions! Everything was going smoothly, except for one small thing. PAINFUL! A small mistake.
Between my activities, both business and extra-curricular (which is where most of my business came from), I was managing about 50 transactions, committees and projects on any given day.And this in addition to running my business. That’s a ton of details. It seemed to me that at every meeting I attended, someone came up to me and told me “I want to buy a rental property”, “call me for a refi” or “my brother is thinking about selling his house”. The strangest business networking lead I ever got was at our Chamber Planning Retreat, standing at a urinal next to a fellow Chamber Board Member and he said “Call me about…” Boy, do I love business networking!
One day I put on a jacket that I almost never wore and found two business cards with a notes on the back to call so and so. Two notes on two cards and neither one with a date! I called both numbers, but the people had gone with other agents and thought that I didn’t need their business. The people that had recommended were angry because I didn’t assist their friends. Over the next week, I tracked down about $42,000 of lost revenue from not having a proper system to handle my business networking activities, conversations & requests. And that was only what I could directly track and confirm. I don’t even want to think of all the “call me” leads I just forgot about.
